The 6th York Whisky Festival
Part of the York Festival of Food and Drink

The Guildhall, York
Saturday September 27th 2008, 12.00pm

To book tickets for this event please phone the York Food Festival booking line on 01904 466687. You will also be able to book masterclass tickets when you call, but please stipulate which class you would like to attend.

Now in it’s 6th year, this event has established itself as the premier whisky event in the North of Engalnd. Come and find out what the fuss is all about.

Distributors and distillers will be on hand to impart you with their knowledge and enthusiasm as well as a dram or several. Companies such as Macallan, Highland Park, Dalmore, Isle of Jura, Bowmore, Queen of the Moorlands, Suntory, Old Pulteney, Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Buffalo Trace, Ardbeg and Glenmorangie are going to be descending on York like a small but powerful force of whisky goodness. You will have the opportunity to try whiskies you probably have never even seen before, let alone tried, whilst mingling and chatting with the experts.

For those of you wanting an even more personal experience, there will be 3 masterclasses during the day where, for the additional paltry sum of £5, you will be rewarded with a sit-down tasting of some rare gems with an industry expert.

The price of entry includes all samples throughout the day, excluding the masterclass drams, a Whisky Lounge goody bag and much joy! There will also be an opportunity to purchase many of the whiskies on tasting.

The Festival is open from 12pm until 6pm

Masterclasses

1. Japan Vs Scotland – Eddie Ludlow, 12pm
Eddie, Whisky Lounge creator, takes you through a tasting of three whiskies from each of these whisky giants. Japanese whisky is now well and truly on the radar having won ‘Best Single Malt’ and ‘Best Blended Whisky’ at this years World Whisky Awards. Come and be astounded!

2. Diageo, Double-matured – Colin Dunn, Global Ambassador, 1pm
Festival favourite Colin Dunn makes a sensational return having risen to the lofty heights of Global Ambassador! The process of double-maturation will be explained in full as Colin guides you through the likes of Caol Ila, Talisker and Cragganmore in his inimitable and often humourous fashion.

3. Buffalo Trace, Bourbon and Rye – Julian Howard, 2.30pm
Julian, bourbon-expert and raconteur, brings you a tempting selection of some of Kentucky’s finest. Bourbon is a fascinating subject and the different styles available can be bewildering so let Julian guide you along the way.

4. The Macallan - Jim Bloor, 3.30pm
The Macallan is often quoted as ‘The Rolls Royce of Single Malts’ due to its reputation around the world. This Speyside distillery is most famous for producing Sherry-casked whiskies which generally have a rich and spicy-sweet characteristic. Come and taste through a few of their finest.

You will not be sent a ticket through the post. Your details will be added to the event register
and all you need to do is print the payment confirmation page and bring it with you to the event.
