Edinburgh Whisky School 2013 – Stage One

Ever wanted to know more about the most diverse spirit in the world?

Our Whisky School courses are designed for anyone with an interest in the subject and wants to learn more in an informal but informative fashion all in the atmospheric and grand setting of the Hotel du Vin.

Find out how whisky is made and discover the different styles produced all over Scotland and the rest of the World. The history, regionality and provenance will be discussed as well as in-depth looks at wood maturation and the new-make spirit.

After completing the course you will receive a signed certificate and more importantly the confidence to speak the ‘language of whisky’.

A rough outline of the ‘syllabus’:

Module 1 - Introduction. History & production overview. Look at barley, new-make spirit, peat. What makes whisky ‘tick’.

Module 2 - The different styles of Whisk(e)y. Single malt, blend, Irish, Bourbon, etc. Tasting.

Module 3 - History and production of world whiskies (Japanese, Taiwanese, Indian, European). Maturation/wood management.

Module 4 - Blending class, blind tasting, final test.
