What We Do

…And why we do it.

The Whisky Lounge is a place in which EVERYONE is encouraged to develop and nurture their interest and passion in the ‘Water of Life’. Through our events and activities, our aim is always to entertain, educate and continuously delight all of those involved. We are about breaking down barriers, myths and legends whilst promoting the understanding that whisky is a historical and iconic product of almost alchemic origins.

Our mission statement is to ‘turn everyone on to whisky’

Everything we do, be it whisky festivals, tastings, a tour, a training session for bartenders or corporate events – our focus is always on the fun and enjoyment of the water of life. Our aim is that whisky-nut and newbee alike can have a wonderful time and feel part of the Whisky Lounge ‘family’.

As well as organising events all over the UK, The Whisky Lounge also provides consultancy and input to the industry as a whole, working with brands and the on-trade. It also produces its own range of eclectic and interesting bottlings that will expand to being available on this website in the near future.

The Founder & Evangelist

The Whisky Lounge was created by self-styled ‘Whisky Evangelist’, Eddie Ludlow.

After working for the ‘industry’, firstly for a well-known high-street wine merchant and then as UK Brand Ambassador for Ardbeg and Glenmorangie, Eddie increasingly found himself wanting to talk to everyone about ALL whisky, not just a selection.

The Co-Founder

Amanda is to organisation and professionalism what Eddie is to whisky. Having given him the name and the idea for the business, it is no surprise to find her directing behind the scenes. With a strong background in sales, catering, bars and clubs, as well as an actual education, Amanda is the calming and much-needed glamour-puss influence of The Whisky Lounge.

The Missionary

Joe Clark is the first employee of The Whisky Lounge. He is a breath of fresh air and keeps the team on it’s toes with his boundless enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. Our resident reviewer and tasting supremo in waiting, Joe learnt and honed his skills under the auspices of the Whisky Shop in York. He has come to us to fulfil the prophecy and take his place at the side of the Evangelist as a Dark Lord of the Sip.

Our Events

If you have NEVER been to a whisky tasting event or festival, then you are in the right place. If you HAVE been to a whisky tasting event or festival, then you are also in the right place.

We ARE about bringing whisky to all parts of the UK where perhaps there is none. We ARE about providing great value events and bringing the best of the whisky universe to you. We ARE about discovering new things together, be it whisky from Japan, India or even England.

We ARE NOT about creating events purely for those with deeper pockets. We ARE NOT about reinforcing ridiculous ‘urban myths’ that have been peddled for decades. We ARE NOT about promoting for the sake of promoting – everything we do must have a purpose.

Our events are deigned to be inclusive and insightful, not exclusive or elusive.

Most of all they should be fun!

Our regular tasting events are relaxed, informal and presented in a way that whisky-lovers of all levels can enjoy them. They are always quirkily themed and aim is to bring the latest and greatest bottlings to a venue near you.

Our Whisky Festivals are now the envy of many and seen as ‘must attend’ by most of the industry and many regular ‘festival-goers’. On one single day, in a city near you, The Whisky Lounge rolls into town with a carnival of distillers and distributors in tow, all anxious to get you to sample their tasty wares.

But don’t take our word for it, take the plunge and we’re sure you’ll be hooked!

We are constantly striving to improve and evolve our offering to you, the most important person in this equation, and we always welcome any comments or suggestions.

Did you know?

Whisky Fact #04

The colour of whisky is determined by the type and freshness of oak and what was previously in the barrel before being filled with new-make.
